Yesterday was NYC’s monthly CMmeetup at Meetup HQ in Soho. A large group of Community Managers gathered around pizza and beer to trade stories, share advice and more importantly, share tools. If you’re a Community Manager you know that your position is always changing. There’s always something new to learn and with that comes a slew of new tools made to make your job easier. There was a lot of talk about what is THE perfect Community Manager tool, and if such a thing would ever exist. Someone joked that the perfect and most important CM tool is you. Everyone laughed, but still the question was left unanswered.
The panel did share what their favorite tools were. My ears perked up instantly because the way to a CM’s heart is by sharing tools that will make their job easier. Here’s what the panel shared:
WeTransfer - Sick of email file size limits? Im looking at you, Gmail! WeTransfer is a great tool for those of you who need to send large files, fast.
TeuxDeux - A task manager is an essential tool for any CM. The beauty of TeuxDeux is that it’s web based. You don’t have to download anything. The CMmeetup panel pointed out that if you don’t mark an item as “done” by the end of the day, the app automatically moves that task to the next day. This way, nothing slips through the cracks. There’s an iPhone app, too!
TweetReach - This tool measures the reach of your brand, marketing campaign or event on Twitter. Just type in a hashtag, @handle or even just a search term and TweetReach will give you fast and informative analytics.
Sprout Social - I was happy to see Sprout Social on the list because I use it (and love it!) myself. Matthew Knell, the Social Media Director at AOL, showed how he and his massive team use Sprout. The bottom line is that it’s easy to use, generates fast and attractive reports and in my experience, the customer support is great.
VideoGenie – This site provides an amazing service. VideoGenie gives your customers the opportunity to talk about your brand through a variety of campaigns. These videos can be recorded on a bunch of platforms and shared anywhere from Youtube to Facebook to your company website and more! It also doesn’t hurt that they have a bunch of A-list clients.
